NEWS for fall 2023

> Berceurs are looking for new teammates to help carry out our evergrowing and stimulating projects. Would you like to work on coordination, mediation and/or presentation of our artistic initiatives? Do you know someone who knows someone? We offer flexible conditions, 10 to 30 hours per week, $18 to $35 per hour, depending on skills and availability. To learn more and apply, please refer to the application form at forms.gle/3eeDHN9H18pWGLgP6.

> After a joyful appearance at the Grandes Oreilles festival in September, Mamie Remix is ready to sow rap and tenderness in Rivière-des-Prairies as part of the Mouve-toi project. We are looking for youth aged 12 to 17 to take part in the adventure and meet the seniors of the neighborhood. Registration is open at bit.ly/mamieremix-RDP until October 22, 2023. In the meantime, videoclips of the previous edition can be found on our Facebook page and on the project's Instagram account.

> Our rocking chairs had another busy summer! Between the now customary appearance at Festilou festival, the annual Storytellers of Canada conference in Sudbury, Les Seigneuriales in Vaudreuil-Dorion, stops in Sherbrooke and Bromont, a warm welcome by Passages Insolites in Quebec City, and finally a first big tour in Bas-Saint-Laurent and the Gaspésie (with support from the Canada Council for the Arts), Bercer le temps / Lulling Time crossed many bridges. We also crossed the Atlantic with a reduced version of the project presented at the international street theatre festival d’Aurillac, and a first collaboration with the Musée comtois at the Citadelle de Besançon, France. Back in Montreal, the installation continues its singing journey at the new Maisonneuve library (September 16-17), in Verchères (September 30, October 1st), in Brossard (October 3-4-5) and in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu (October 7-8). Check our calendar or follow the news on our Facebook page for exact locations, dates and times.

> Following in the footsteps of A Breath of Air (summer 2021) and Jardin des consolations (spring 2023), an intergenerational community gathered by choreographer Sarah Dell'Ava came together this summer for a series of poetic encounters under the trees, exploring movement and singing. The outcome is a dance walk followed by Annabelle Chouinard on the violin and presented this Friday, September 29 at Médéric-Martin park. Join us at the corner of Hochelaga and Gascon streets at 6 pm to discover the fruits of Jardins dansants with the Journées de la Culture and the support of Ville-Marie borough.

> Following Contes à dormir debout, our podcasts for the whole family, we continue our collaboration with the Festilou festival in Petites sagesses, a new series of podcasts for kids from 3 to 6 years old. Co-hosted by Sylvette the owl and guest children, each episode features a local storyteller. Stay tuned to discover the series this fall on your favourite broadcasting platforms.

At the very beginning of the confinement, Berceurs du temps launched a series of weekly HEBDODOs to appease the minds and put worries to sleep. Each week, from March 25 to May 6, we shared 7 lullabies from our archives at https://berceursdutemps.ca/hebdodos and through SoundCloud's mobile app.

LULLING TIME now features a collection of more than 2000 lullabies in over 80 languages, and it keeps growing. Thank you to the golden voices of those who have sang their love in front of our mics since 2016. Until we meet again in the parks over the summer, feel free to share these bedtime delights around you!

Logos

Out of the cradle endlessly rocking,
I sing a reminiscence,
I sing a future.

(inspired by Walt Whitman)

A gentle immersion into the world of lullabies, LULLING TIME invites to travel aboard a rocking chair. Set up in the heart of the city, the installation welcomes visitors in a suspended time-space outside of the surrounding urban bustle. Feet on the grass, swinging along, everyone can get carried away by the echoes of childhood through songs from all over the world.

A soothing and comforting ritual, a song of love and tenderness, lullabies reassure and guide towards the night. At the threshold of the sleep, they take different shapes, from an ancient melody to a popular song, from nursery rhymes to soft incantations. Lullabies are transmitted in secret and often forgotten. Our collection reveals the treasures of cosmopolitan Montreal gleaned from all over the city, drawing on traditions from Quebec, the first nations, Congo, France, Germany, Iran, Japan, Russia and Venezuela, to name a few.

During the opening hours of the installation, visitors who would like to take part in the collection of lullabies will have the opportunity to do so in a short recording session, sharing a precious intimacy. These songs gain a new life, feeding a living archive and a real collective heritage. Memories become future.

Creating poetic spaces that reflect community challenges in contemporary society, BERCEURS DU TEMPS mix artistic mediums – dance, theatre, performance, sound and visual arts – around the idea of voice as a relationship vector. Founded in 2016 by choreographer Sarah Dell’Ava and dramaturg Ilya Krouglikov, the company aims to bring art to citizens in an unpredictable and diverted fashion, to revisit our relationship to time and to the beauty of the world. Participatory, intergenerational and inclusive, its projects seek to fulfill the creative potential of each individual in a dynamic of openness to oneself, to others and to the environment. Following BERCER LE TEMPS / LULLING TIME installation, still touring after more than 150 performances over six years, they value sharing, heritage and transmission through co-creation and cultural mediation initiatives with the youth and the elderly.

Sarah Dell’Ava develops a multidisciplinary approach of the body through dance, visual arts and singing. Her projects explore the question of the origin of the movement, namely in Dans les plis (2012), Oriri (2013) and Orir (2016). Engaging in a dialogue with the community, her research takes shape through residencies, mediation activities and workshops with intergenerational groups.

In 2016 Sarah takes part in initiatives by Emmanuel Jouthe (Écoute pour voir, Et si on dansait) and prepares together with Ilya Krouglikov an installation on lullabies, all of those promoting art to invigorate human bonds. Most recently, she co-founded Espace Oriri, a place dedicated to spontaneous expression for young and old, where creativity connects interiority and relationship.

Ilya Krouglikov has been developing an undisciplined approach to performing arts for more than ten years, with a particular attention to composition and rhythm. Trained as a mathematician, he believes in meaningful and inventive structures open to the urges of the present. As a dramaturg, he accompanies various creative processes in dance, theatre and performance art, namely alongside Sarah Dell'Ava, Eduardo Ruiz Vergara, Aurélie Pedron, Sonia Bustos and Les sœurs Schmutt. An experienced fencer, Ilya carries this body language over to dance. As a performer, he works with choreographers and visual artists Bettina Hoffman and Pé Vermeersch (Belgium). Together with the choreographer Eduardo Ruiz Vergara he creates and performs the duet Eyes of Ceres presented at the MAI (Montreal, arts interculturels, 2014) and at Mains d'Œuvres (Paris, 2015).

Artistic codirector at BERCEURS DU TEMPS and committed creator, he promotes slowness and contemplation through participatory works in public space — such as the sound installation Lulling Time, a living archive of lullabies of the world, touring parks and squares of Greater Montreal since summer 2017. Ilya is involved in several co-creation and cultural mediation projects. In 2021, for instance, he gives the spark to Mamie Remix, an initiative that invites high school students to create tender rap music based on poems chosen by seniors.
